Neuroscientists have linked love with nerve growth factor

That "certain behavioral and / or psychological characteristics related to being in love, may be associated with an increase in blood plasma levels of nerve growth factor. The researchers note that "in terms of neurobiology, romantic love is still poorly understood," but "there is nothing surprising in the fact that a variety of biochemical mechanisms may be involved in mood changes in the initial stages of the novel."

"We have investigated - the scientists say - whether the early romantic phase of a love relationship to be related to changes in circulating levels of neurotrophins such as NGF, BDNF, NT-3 and NT-4."

To understand this question, plasma levels were measured in total, 58 people who recently fell in love. The researchers then compared the results with data obtained from two control groups consisting of single and composed of long-term relationship of people.

It was found that levels of NGF in love was much higher, that is, was spotted "a strong positive correlation between levels of NGF and the intensity of romantic love." No differences in concentrations of other neurotrophins were detected.

At the same time, 39 lovers, after 12-24 months of supporting the same relationship with their elected representatives, have decreased plasma levels of NGF and were indistinguishable from those of people from the control groups.
